Rebranding myself.

Hello dear followers,

While it has taken time to reach just over 120 followers and develop my blog, I have decided to rebrand myself. Over the next year, I will hopefully be maturing and moving on from college student to real-world employee. This means, that I need to really think about how I want to represent myself. Your blog is your brand and if your brand isn’t you, it is time for a change.

This change has been developing on my other blog, The City Scholar. Managing The Actor’s Boutique and my personal Tumblr has become a little too much. I also believe that my personal account shows a side of me that I wish to keep more private. In fact, I will probably be deleting it within the next year.

The Actor’s Boutique is a Tumblelog or second blog on my personal account, meaning that if my personal blog goes bye-bye, so does this one. After having The Actor’s Boutique on Tumblr since my freshman year of college, I find that my voice on here can be confusing and sometimes immature.

With that being said, I encourage you all to check out The City Scholar. I will be doing a mix of personal pictures from my Instagram, product reviews, and posts about my life that hopefully others can relate to.

Thank you so much for reading The Actor’s Boutique and most recently, for asking questions. I love giving advice and speaking to others, which I hope to do on my other blog.

We’re making it an all day event because we really want to make sure that each student gets a feel for FIT. You have to understand that we’re very different from other colleges. We take a lot of pride in our campus events as well. We want to make sure that our visitors get a feel for what FIT is and what we stand for. It’s also the very first Junior Day we’ve ever done, we’re testing the waters a little bit. Some events are repetitive so not everything is totally required. But, we do encourage you to attend as much of the event as possible. See you there!

Hi! how competitive is it to get into FIT if you are not applying as a fashion major? I am hoping to major in Fashion Marketing. Also what grades do you need to get accepted to FIT?

Hi! I can’t exactly comment on how competitive it is because each major is a different size and has different requirements for acceptance into that major. Some have as a little as 25 students while others, like mine, have a few hundred. I can tell you that about 11,000 students go to the school, about 2,000 of them being freshmen.

The major you would probably be applying for is Fashion Merchandising Management, which is my major. We deal with marketing as well as buying, planning, and product development. If you’re looking to go more into advertising and marketing, I suggest you look into Advertising and Marketing Communications. They deal more with editorials, copywriting, journalism and advertising. All of the course curriculum is available at www.fitnyc.edu.

FIT looks for at least a 3.0 GPA when applying. Hope this helps!

Hi, so I am a junior and I recently have become really interested in FIT as a possible college for me. I want to become a fashion buyer and I am from California so I wouldn't be able to attend the so called "Junior Day". But what is the night life like? Is everyone friendly? Is the boy/girl ratio annoying? Do you guys socialize with other colleges in NYC. Any information would be great, have a wonderful day :)

Hey! Well, you messaged the right person because I am specializing in Buying and Planning! In fact, FIT is the only school where you can get certified in an industry-wide program called JDA for buying and planning.

Night life: everyone does their own thing. My friends and I go to late night dinners and go shopping because everything is open late on Fridays and Saturdays. It’s NYC so there is always something to do. The school even does a huge Breakfast for Dinner event at night during the year as well as movie nights every other week.

Every one here is friendly and helpful. We run one of the most fun Orientation weeks for new students to make sure you feel comfortable and get acquainted with NYC right away.

All I will say about the girl/boy ration is that the school is mostly female. We do, however, have a very diverse population of students in age, race, and whatnot, which is fantastic.

A lot of students seem to know or meet people from other schools in the Manhattan. We try our best to get involved with other schools. The Style Shop usually does a photoshoot with NYU, for example. My cousin goes to another university in Manhattan so I hang out with her a lot and have met some of her friends. I recently went to a social media conference where I met a ton of students from NYU and Fordham, which was nice.

Demi Lovato has another half-sister.:

I was a little intrigued by this post, especially after I saw that Demi revealed this new information about herself to my local radio station back home.

The 20 year-old ‘X Factor’ judge and my personal idol revealed that she met back in August, a half-sister she never knew about. We all know her younger half-sister, Madison, from “Desperate Housewives”, but this girl is much older than Demi.

What’s so touching about this is that Demi reveals that her new found relative never contacted her because she didn’t want Demi to think she wanted anything out of her. For once, a celebrity family member thought about their actions before they took matters into their own hands. Demi’s sister waited for the star herself to contact to her to see if she wanted any sort of relationship.

This is why myself and so many other people love Demi: she doesn’t hide anything. She keeps it as real as she can (I use ‘can’ because she can’t reveal everything).

Yes, I am in one of those philosophical moods at the moment. Deal with it.

Every week, I have this thought: Am I doing the right thing? Will I really get a job after this? What if I get a degree and end up in a totally different field? Should I have just worked instead of gone to college?

A lot of times, I look at (here it comes) One Direction. I’m around all of their ages. They went on a TV show, became famous and are now worth over $100 million. They didn’t have to stress about finals and finding internships. They don’t have to worry for the rest of their lives about money. But, on the other hand, they do have to stress about keeping up an image worldwide, selling records so they don’t get dropped from their label and what they want on their own Twitter accounts and in interviews. The six of us, I’m sure, all suffer anxiety to some extent.

I also second guess everything I’m doing because of the industry I want to go into. I was at an event yesterday with college kids mainly from NYU and Fordham. Sure, there were us FIT kids in our own little group and people seemed interested in what we do. But then I was talking to a girl from NYU. She was dressed impeccably well and even introduced herself to me when I first got to the event. But, she then started talking about an app she was developing that uses algorithms to personally style men or something to that extend. I suggested that she should hang around FIT. She then responded by saying her app will put students at my school out of business. Excuse me?

I think people in the real-world hear fashion and think I’m a bimbo who is going to go to runway shows and just purchase clothing for a store. Actually, I’m learning concepts in school, people. It’s not all about clothing: it’s about products, money, statistics, marketing and so much more.

The moral of this post is, if you’re second-guessing why you are in college or university, think again. We’re all doing the right thing. A college education is so valuable in life. If you’re scared that you won’t find a job, take this into consideration: you won’t find one unless you try. And if college isn’t for you, then stop wasting your money and time.

You are not alone, my fellow broke and overworked students. We live in an age of information overload. We over think and overanalyze everything these days. Stop for a second and tell yourself that it’s okay. You are doing the right thing.

Women’s Wear Daily reports on how and why the biggest event every September has decided to take a hiatus.

As a fashion student, I always thought that FNO wasn’t really a time to shop, but more of a time to meet designers and celebrities. The purpose, which as stated in this article, was to get consumers to buy but instead, became one huge party. My classmates and I would always say, “Can’t we just have designers and industry people? What does someone like Nicki Minaj have to to with fashion?”

Personally, I’d rather be meeting people like Grace Coddington or CEOs like Mickey Drexler or designers like the Dannijo sisters. FNO was never meant to be “Hollywood’s Night Out”: Fashion is the first and key word here.
